400mm vs 450mm — Which Size Do You Need?

Choosing the right runner length depends on your cabinet depth and drawer box dimensions. Use this guide to select the right size for your project:

We stock full-extension ball bearing drawer runners in 400mm and 450mm. These two sizes cover the vast majority of Australian kitchen and cabinetry drawer applications. Both sizes are $10.00 + GST per pair.

They are priced and sold in pairs — one left-hand runner and one right-hand runner per set. Each pair is $10.00 + GST, regardless of size (400mm or 450mm).

Our ball bearing drawer runners are rated to 45kg per pair. This is more than sufficient for all standard residential kitchen, bathroom, and laundry drawer applications, including pantry drawers loaded with heavy items.

The rule of thumb is: runner length should be approximately 20–50mm shorter than your cabinet depth, with your drawer box roughly 25mm shorter than the runner. For standard kitchen cabinets (450–500mm deep), the 400mm runner is usually appropriate. For deeper pantry and utility cabinets (550–600mm deep), choose the 450mm. Our standard runners are conventional side-mount full-extension ball bearing runners without soft-close or push-to-open. If you require these features, contact us to discuss your requirements and we'll advise on options.

These are side-mount drawer runners. The outer rail attaches to the cabinet side panel and the inner rail attaches to the drawer box. Installation is straightforward with standard tools. A lever-release mechanism allows easy drawer removal once installed.
